ABOUT

We bring free self-defense workshops to communities across Virginia, teaching practical self-defense training, from de-escalation and boundary-setting to survival tactics, empowering people of all identities to move through unsafe situations with more confidence and tact. We center historically marginalized populations and survivors of gender based violence although our classes are open to everyone.

The hunger for safety in our community is palpable. In the last couple years we’ve seen a flood of interest in our workshops– after only a couple days of announcing the workshops, a waitlist is implemented.

Through all programs FLAG leads, one thing remains true– it is never the fault of the survivor for the violence they experience. We have been witness to self-defense as an act of healing– for both survivors and allies.

We are proud to offer free self-defense classes across Virginia including Charlottesville, Richmond, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, and Nelson.

Mission

We strive to empower people with the ability to protect their physical and emotional well-being through intersectional feminist self-defense education, with a focus on accessibility, inclusivity, and community resilience.
