PUBLIC WORKSHOPS
Learn simple, effective self-defense skills in a non-discriminatory space where all individuals are welcome regardless of gender identity or expression, citizenship, race, sexual orientation, or age (children/youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Workshops are FREE but donations are appreciated.
What to expect from a workshop:
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in! Clothes you’d feel ok being a little sweaty in and that allow you to move around freely.
Arrive a few minutes early to check in with a FLAG team member, sign a waiver, and get settled in the space.
At the workshop start, we’ll circle up to introduce the instructors and FLAG as well as ground in the space and prepare our nervous systems for practicing defense tactics.
Verbal Defense: The first section of the workshop is all about verbal deescalation, setting boundaries, and trusting our instincts.
Physical Defense: We then move into the physical defense sections and practice tactics for mildly and overly aggressive This typically includes blocking unwanted touch, how to make a fist, identifying vital points, and striking targets.
Break: About half-way through we take a break for bio needs, water, snacks, and deep breaths.
Our final section of the workshop is dedicated to dangerously aggressive situations. We practice triangulation and isolation situations as well as grappling moves.
We wrap up by circling up together to decompress, discuss self-care following the workshop, and take a group photo (optional!).
